Bloody Mary

About this variety

Bloody Mary shrimp are the pinnacle of red neocaridina breeding, a selectively developed variant prized for their deep, wine-red to chocolate-red colouration. Unlike Red Cherries, the colour in Bloody Marys is carried in the muscle tissue rather than just the shell, producing a uniquely dense, opaque red that does not fade or look washed out. They are among the most visually impactful freshwater shrimp available and are particularly striking under warm aquarium lighting.

Care in Brunei's Climate

Bloody Marys are noticeably hardier than their delicate reputation suggests and manage well in Brunei's warm water. A planted tank of 10 to 40 litres with a sponge filter or gentle flow suits them, and the deep red colour deepens further under warm lighting. Locally bred in Brunei Darussalam, they arrive strong and adapted to regional water.

Breeding & Population

Females carry 20 to 30 eggs per clutch and reproduce reliably once the tank is mature. Colour maturity comes with age; young adults deepen into the rich wine-red over their first several molts. For keepers who want to build up colour quality, culling pale individuals steadily improves the line.

Tank Mates & Feeding

An identical care profile to Red Cherries: small peaceful fish only, plenty of surfaces for biofilm, and a diet of shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein-rich food. They are currently available in limited batches, so check the shop for availability and read the delivery guide.
