Blue Cherry shrimp share the same resilient nature as their red counterparts but bring a cool, calming hue to the aquarium. Colour intensity varies across grades - entry-level shrimp show a blue-grey tint, while higher-grade individuals display a consistent, vivid blue across the entire body. They're just as easy to keep and breed as Red Cherries, making them a great way to add colour variety without increasing the difficulty of your setup.
Blue Cherries handle tropical water with ease and do not need a chiller in most Brunei homes. Any tank from 10 to 40 litres with a gentle filter and some moss or plants will keep a colony thriving. Because they are bred locally in Brunei Darussalam rather than imported, they adjust quickly to local water conditions and settle in with minimal losses.
Breeding is straightforward: females carry 20 to 30 eggs at a time, and juveniles appear within a few weeks of adulthood. Given stable water and steady feeding, a starter colony will begin expanding within one to two months. Selling or trading surplus shrimp becomes a pleasant problem for most keepers.
Their blue colouration is best preserved in shrimp-only tanks, since pale or young fish may eat juveniles. They eat biofilm and soft algae, supplemented with blanched vegetables and shrimp food.
